Hypoallergenic Dog Foodinformation on hypoallergenic dog food

Most hypoallergenic dog food is natural and is ideal for your dog because, unlike some dog food products, it has not been processed with inappropriate food additives that can adversely affect your dog.

hypoallergenic:
"contains relatively few or no potentially irritating substances so as to reduce or minimise the possibility of an allergic response"

Hypoallergenic dog food should, by definition, not contain fillers that can trigger an allergic reaction or any other animal by-products that may have been stale or exposed to chemicals or growth hormones.

Hypoallergenic dog food has many ingredients that combat the varying allergies a dog might suffer. Since some dogs are allergic to chicken, there is a selection of hypoallergenic dog foods made from lamb or beef. Other dog foods contain rice instead of wheat or even corn meal instead of the other main ingredients. Whatever your dog's allergy, The Dog Shop has a hypoallergenic dog food to match.

Varying a Hypoallergenic Diet

As dog owners, we know that you may “add a bit of interest” to vary your dog's diet. This can be extremely beneficial for your dog, but only if it's done sensibly and by using the correct ingredients.

Adding fresh veg (not salted), mashed up and stirred into your dog's meal a few times a week is a good idea. Likewise, mashing up a tinned pilchard or sardine (not in tomato sauce) is a healthy addition to a holistic dog food.

A healthy variation of your dog's diet keeps din dins interesting and nutritious... but keep it constant! The golden rule is not to vary the diet too much or too often as The Dog Shop feeds already have everything your dog needs for a holistic or hypoallergenic diet. We can’t work miracles but we can make it tasty!
